Dr. John Hickey is an ACS Postdoctoral Scholar in the Department of Pathology at Stanford University. His research uses and builds systems biology tools to describe spatial relationships between cells in tissues, focused on applying multiplexed imaging and bioinformatic techniques to characterize spatial cellular responses associated with efficacy of anti-cancer T cell therapies. Imaging will be supported by computational tools to decode critical interactions within the multidimensional data, such as multiscale models. He has also developed magnetic nanoparticles for enriching and expanding rare antigen-specific T cells and hydrogels for adoptive T cell therapy. By understanding the spatial biology governing changes in cell environments, the next generation of cell therapies or biomaterial augmentations to control the cellular microenvironment can be created.
