Dr. Long Cai is a Professor in the Department of Biology and Biological Engineering at the California Institute of Technology. His research team pioneered the field of spatial genomics by developing tools such as seqFISH, which allows >10,000 genes to be detected in situ with single molecule resolution in tissues, and MEMOIR, to record molecular events into the genome of cells in collaboration with Michael Elowitz's lab. These tools are used to discover unexpected dynamics in stem cell biology, and uncover spatial organization in the brain and embryos. The group will continue to explore questions in developmental biology and neuroscience, including generating spatial atlases of organisms at single cell resolution.
